Borrowed flowers

I have started recording some fun things kids say and do. No doubt there have been many books already written about this topic, but that's okay. I think these everyday occurrences sometimes go unnoticed or they get forgotten. In the case of children, when they say funny, insightful things, I usually make a mental note of their comment or what they did, but later I forget their words and what made the impression on me. I have often thought about recording these things as they happen.

Yesterday, my neighbor's four year old son Avi came to my house with a small bouquet of flowers mostly collected from some of the other neighbor's gardens. The bouquet was simple, yet beautiful, consisting of some orange California poppies, a piece of lemon thyme from my yard, and a dandilion or two. Needless to say, he was quite proud of what he had picked. He handed me the flowers with his sly little grin because he knew he wasn't supposed to be picking flowers from other gardens. His mom and I exchanged glances, attempting to stay serious so we would not encourage further flower picking, but it was hard not to laugh.

Memories

Italy trip

I have been going through my pictures, and have enjoyed looking at this album of Italy. I was able to go over last year to attend a conference. This was the first time I have been back in twenty years. The pictures are made up mostly of places we lived as a family. My brother and I were able to go together, and we were graciously hosted by some friends of ours from language school in Perugia. I feel such a sense of nostalgia when I look at these pictures. I miss Italy so much. It was strange to go back as a tourist knowing I would be returning to the US after such a short time. Tonight I made cookies with Nutella in them, and I remembered how much I enjoyed the simple pleasures. Fortunately, you can find it here! Saturday, we are going up to my brother's house to celebrate a late Thanksgiving, only we will be making homemade tortellini instead of turkey. Happy Thanksgiving!
